instead of that towel, tape paper or cardboard over the screen cover. (this is what you should have permanently with the tank)
I would use cardboard, or plastic, or fiberglass, plexi glass, oaktag paper, etc.... just cut it to be a tiny bit larger than the screen part itself, then tape it to the metal edges around the screen cover.
Leave a hole for the light.

Mist all down well, leave a drinking water bowl and a seperate larger bowl for soaking/humidity.

Keep the light over the whole but leave it off while you are gone. As long as there is another heat source there, you will be fine.

Anyway, they wouldn't get crushed... not enough size difference..
