A friend of mine that used to live there recently moved back because of mounting political and social instability. Evidently the government blew a lot of peoples' money on some sort of scam or something...and now, not surprisingly, a lot of people are pissed. It's really unfortunate too. I greatly enjoyed visiting them last year and trying my first hand at tropical herping. Maybe things will settle down though.
