respitory question ?/???????

My friend brought her snake to a vet for a respitory problem and the vet told her the bark for a substrate is the reason for the problem. I have never had a problem like this but I just brought a young jungle carpet and was wondering what the best substrate is for her? We used reti bark is that OK? here is a pic of my girl
