With all the crazy postings about people being bitten and the laws, I missed looking at some great pictures. C. cerastes is one of my favorite snakes. I was never really a huge fan of them until I saw them in person and the white spots on the back just jumped out at me. Looking at all the different "bells and whistles" this snake has just makes them an "ultimate snake" in my opinion. I will stay away from saying "evolved" but just seeing a snake with a rattle, amazing camo, the heat pits, the fangs, the scales above the eyes...just makes me want to look at them for hours. And all wrapped in such a small package.

Has there ever been any DNA work on them? Minor tail differences and variation in size really is seeming as trivial as you can get, especially with all the recent taxonomy changes and debates within crotalus. I certainly see a lot more variation among timbers and canes than I see in any of the cerastes subs. But bright colors easily confuse a lot of people lol. The little cerastes keeps it simple.
