If it's not allowed, you can always sneak in a small reptile. You can probably manage your corn snake in your 30 gallon tank. It kind of depends on whether your roommates cool with it or not. One of my cousins managed to sneak in a small bird and keep it throughout her college years. She had to bribe her roommate though.
