He might feel a little bit intimidated eating in that clear deli cup (although it doesn't seem to have affected his appetite! lol) and that might be why he was snapping at you. I don't know if you took him out of his cage just to feed him, but maybe if you left him in there to eat, he'd feel more secure and be less nippy.
