In light of several posts on Elaphe dione recently, I thought I'd post on the recent hatching here. I just love these snakes for many reasons, but mostly because they compliment my corns and kings and make just as good of pets. Because they are diurnal, my diones keep me occupied during the day when most of the corns and kings are sleeping.

My F1 male/female dione are from the original w/c pair I got from Lloyd Lemke that he brought back from Seoul, South Korea. The five babies I got this June are the F2 generation. Here's the mother of the group, one of my favorite snakes...

I love the various shades of brown they have too. Here's a portrait of the male...

Of the six of eight good eggs I got in May, only five pipped. That's pretty normal for a first clutch. The record for this form is 16. Here they are thrusting their noses out for the first time after only 25 days...

The babies are quite dark before their first shed. They'll lighten up later, as you can see from their parents. This shot is in dim light too...

I'm having a great time raising these beauties. They are really fun to work with. I'm hoping we can get some mutations to add to the fun sometime in the future. Til later...
