He needs to remove the basket, and mix some dry vermiculite in with the wet until the vermiculite barely clumps (then remove any excess vermiculite to get it back to the right volume). I'd get rid of the basket if it were me and just put the eggs right on the substrate. I bet the eggs will dry out if they are not moldy.
