Sorry for the poor focus but I just couldn't wait to post this fella because of the colors! This is an f1 cross between two independent F1 crosses.
The sire was the result of breeding a male Calvert County MD hypo to a Virginia coastal; the dame was the result of breeding a Calvert County MD hypo to a select Tyrrell County NC female. Genetically, that makes this guy 50% Calvert, 25% Virginia and 25% NC.
Color saturation and extreme reduction of black pigment are exceptional. Every now and then I wonder if I was wrong to go against the "locality" grain and seek to refine this strain by outbreeding to other coastal lineages. When I see neonates like this come out my doubt evaporates.
