Just recieved a new beautiful columbian red tailed boa, she's about 2 ft long and she was purchased from a breeder at a reptile show. I am on a short trip currently in MI visiting a friend and I wouldnt normally purchase a reptile when on vacation but it was hard to pass up. I have not currently owned a boa before but have had many and currently own many reptiles now. (snakes and lizards) I have her in a 20 gallon for the next 5 days before i make my way back to NC. But i placed her in her temporary cage with a basking light heating pad for night plenty of hiding spots and a nice clean sorace of water for her if she needs to fully submerge herself. I have been feeding her fuzzies about twice to three times a week. I left her alone in her cage for 2 days to help her adjust from all the commotion. I couldnt help but to take her out on the third day. I have noticed that she is very quick to strike which is very understanding given her conditions but she is the most aggressive snake ive currently purchased. She will continously strike at the face and every hand near her. But then calm down. Then strike again like before. I was just curious on the usual temperment of a boa. Do they in time calm down for handling? Are they a pretty calm snake or are they kind of tempermental? Like do they grow out of it. I understand that she will not just become a tame snake over night i know that but i was just wondering is that normal for a boa to be that aggressive? And it would be very helpful if any could give me some HANDLING tips or maybe HOUSING tips to make her feel at home faster or more comfortable. Thank you!
