No. Read some of the substrate threads discussed here. Unless it's washed, sifted, fine playsand...don't use it. I don't like sand at all, but if you have to use sand...that's the only kind to use. You can get it at Home Depot for 3-5 dollars for a 50lb. bag. If it's a baby or juvi...don't use sand at all. Use non-stick shelf liner you can get at Wal-Mart, newspaper, paper towel, tile, indoor/outdoor carpeting...etc. Sand should only be used for adults and sub-adults over 12 in. in length, and even then, I don't believe it's completely safe.
