Sand is generally a bad idea no matter what, it can cause impactions and also harbors bacteria and is extremely hard to keep clean.
If you still choose to use sand use it only on adult animals, sand should NEVER be used on juvis. And use only fine grain washed sifted playsand. No sand is digestable. You must also spot clean daily and do total cleans weekly with sand to try and eliminate bacteria, its very time consuming.
Some other substrates that are much safer and easier matinence are: linolium, tile, cage carpet, newspaper, paper towels, and non adhesive shelf liner ----- 0.1 Bearded dragon
