Keeping mealworms...

I have some mealworms that started out "mini" but I didn't use them fast enough (hard to feed without them getting into my vivarium)...well, they're growing, which is fine since our Jax can eat them. However, the stuff they were living in is now smelling bad since I didn't use them fast enough...what can I put them in to keep them going? It seems they're not liking this stuff anymore as they're mostly hanging out on top rather than buried down in it. Are they still ok to feed?
