what ever you let her lay in has to be able to hold a tunnel without colapsing. practice this with your hand. if you can sick your hand in the substrate and pull it out, without the "tunnel" colapsing, it is perfect for your female. If the substrate crumbles away and does not hold a tunnel, add more water and mix the soil together to make it more moist.



when my female laid eggs i mixed a quart of vermiculite and a brick of coconut fiber together. it was moist and held a tunnel. they also like to dig around root balls of plants. so i unpotted a pothos and set it right on top of the fibermix (in a 5 gallon bucket). of course, she dug down in a spiral around the base of the plant and then went straight down to the bottom of the bucket and laid 31 eggs there.
