We actually stayed at the beach with a relative who lives there during the storm. The hurricane stayed pretty far from us around 200 miles away but the surf looked more like Hawaii than Florida.
We usually get dinky waves in the gulf but we even had people surfing.
The shoreline moved almost to the building we were in but did not get over the sea wall.
Not only that we even had some downed trees and damage from some tornadoes in the area but not where I was staying. Some huge metal light posts all broken in half at a golf course. All that and it stayed really far away from us.
I can't imagine the damage it would have caused if it actually hit us. The funny thing is your snow and ice photo above scares me more than the hurricanes. I would have to wear one of those bright orange survival suits constantly if I lived where you do. I would probably walk outside, go into a hypothermic stupor and just topple over into the snow and they would have to keep dragging me inside and thawing me out. I would need to wear the bright snow suit so they could find me each time my metabolism slowed to a halt.
