"I honestly see absolutely no reason in pre killing anything for a ball as you take away one of its natural characteristics of killing for a meal. In what way does it benefit the snake?? "
Benefits I am aware of:
-reduces chances of injury to BP. Sure, even if you keep an eye on the rat, it still might get a couple of good bites in before you have a chance to break it up. Sometimes snakes don't catch the food in the right spot, and the rodent has room to swing around. Why risk it at all?
-reduces suffering to prey. It's more humane.
-if thawed, you eliminate some parasites.
