how to get my sands to eat???????????????

i recieved a supposed 1.1 kenyan sands which were supposedly eating. well its been about 2 months or so and they still havent eaten yet for me. they are being housed in plastic containers and are both on top of some heat tape. temps are about 85 degrees. now if im doing something wrong what is it? please help me out. ive tried the previous owners techniques but just arent working for me. thanks a lot to all who respond.
