I use heavy ceramic crocks in the larger cages~ but for the smaller ones I like the little plastic dishes. They get spilled constantly~ so I bought a bunch of those polished rocks at the craft store and just fill the bottom of the bowl with rocks. Works fine, and if you put them in a mesh container (they have them for baby bottle parts at Walmart) you can run them through the dishwasher with the water bowls when you need too!!
