Some species are more prone to taming than others. There are breeders producing some nice snakes and some can be found in the classified section of this web site under "other snakes". There are indeed some morphs. Albino Checkered garters are quite common with breeders and there is a wide assortment of color morphs among the Plains Garters. Melanistic examples are found among the Eastern garters and the Wandering garters. Flame Easterns are also very striking. There are other examples but you get the idea. In my personal opinion some of the most striking Garters, and snakes in general, are some of the "normal" patterned/colored Garters. Scott Felzer advertises on this site and he seems to be one of the more prolific breeders of Garters. He specializes in a wide variety of morphs and his site has pictures of the various animals. There are other web sites out there as well where you can learn about Garter Morphs. I personally have 27 Garters representing 7 species, 13 if counting subspecies, so I can attest to the addicting nature of Garter Snake husbandry. [ Hide Replies ]
