Vitamin A in and of itself is not bad for amphibians and is a metabolic requirement. It is only a problem when the ratio of vitamin A to D3 is greater than 10 to 1. There is a lot of discussion that excessive vitamin A is a real problem and can kill frogs but to be sure that this is accurate the livers of the frogs would need to be analyzed to determine if this was in fact true (I have seen no data to this effect as of yet).



If you are using Herptivite, this product will supply the vitamin A via betacarotene which frogs seem to be able to readily synthesize to vitamin A (unlike some bufonids).



You want to mix the supplements so the ratio of A to D3 is about 10 to 1 and there is a ration of 1-1 to 2-1 of calcium to phosphorus.
