yes, they are amazing animals. i was fortunate enough to be canoing down barton springs in austin tx when i happened across a huge common snapper. the base of his tail was as thick as my fore arm, and his shell was at least a foot and a half long. im sure that there are more impressive snappers out there, but he (or she!) was the largest that i have ever encounterd.

the best part about it was that she was idly paddling along next to us, without a care in the world!
