The petstore is the wrong place to go with sick pets

Education needed to work in a petstore:zero

It sounds like your turtle is a close family pet. Sometimes problems remain minor, and snappers are great healers, but from your description it is hard to tell what exactly is going on. The redness could be a simple rash, or it could be a sign of septicemia. You would be doing your turtle a favor by seeking qualified advice at a vet office.
