Question for Texas Herpers...

I am deciding between a weekend trip to Houston or Joshua Tree in mid October - I am familiar with with Joshua Tree, but I was wondering if there was anything good in the Houston area that time of year. I would love to go down to Brazos Bend State Park and see some alligators if they would still be out. As always - snake info could make the decision easier as well.
