Jeff, we started our trip in Iquitos and worked our way down to Requena, then back. The real fun took place at night as we would stop and hike miles off river into the forest, finding tons of stuff. It is my impression that different times of year are better for different species of snakes, there is no one golden month. July is partly a wet season for the amazon, and the water brings out the frogs, which in turn bring out the smaller species of snakes and those which dwell in the forest. Yet when the water is high, those species which spend much time in the water (anaconda) are nearly impossible to find. So I guess its all the luck of the draw or what you specifically want to find that you should plan a trip around.
