There are two species located in your area, the Pacific Horned Lizard and the Desert Horned Lizard. The Pacific Horned LIzard is highly protected and should not be messed with, take pictures but that's it. Look around areas where there is an abundance of red ants, you likely will not see many adults at this time because it's starting to get late in the season, next spring might be better, however you might find some young. Please read the laws of California, also might look at our site with respect to desert horned lizards and familiarize yourself with thier life history. I am very iffy about giving out information on California because of the rash of illegal horned lizards I have seen this year on the net, and what ever is there you can multiply expedintially--so please be considerwte...Cheers! ----- Phrynosoma.com
