This is a quote from a post that I made in early December, 2003.
"My Rhino,Loofah, who turned 2 years old on November 5th, is already over 34 inches STL and 14 inches SVL. I believe he's going to be a monster. Bubbles, my 5 year old female, is 44 inches STL and 18 inches SVL."
Loofah is from a Stefanie/Jomo breeding, hatched November 5th, 2001. He grew in leaps and bounds his first 2.5 years and I thought he was going to be a real monster, but growth has slowed considerably since. He's now 40 inches in total length and approximately 16 inches SVL. He's also a calm, attention seeking animal, often climbing up onto my lap or onto my shoulder from his basking spot. He's a wonderful lizard.
I also have a 2 year old male, from the same clutch as the one Carole just posted about (Diego), and he's not near as large as hers. I think the difference is because mine was not housed alone for the last year but had another Rhino cagemate of the same age. Unfortunately both turned out to be males and one is now living with friends in St. Petersburg, FL. Now maybe the remaining one will take off and have a growth spurt. Eventually he will have to find a new home also. Three adult male Rhinos is enough for me!!
Here is a photo of Loofah at 2 years of age.
