I have them setup in a safe room, so if they do
climb down and roam around (happens once in a while)
they can't get into anything dangerous. Most of the time
they're pretty content to just sit in on their branches doing nothing. Once they do some initial exploring they usually
settle down into a chosen territory and stay there for the most part. I can guess now where they will be at any given time
of day, they have a very set routine that they stick to like
clockwork. Drink some water, climb down to check out the floor,
stare out the window, eat a roach, back to the favorite spot, rinse, repeat.
I can't say how well this setup would work for other species,
(especially small fragile guys)
but from what I've seen with other chameleons, if they like where they're at, they usually stay put.
