Okay, I spent some time searching. I found that water snakes can have these marking, are in my area, and that the juveniles (which by size I am assuming it was) can have somewhat flatter heads and usually have distinctly two-toned eyes, which it did. Very round pupils. So, even though there is not a creek or a pond for about 3 miles, I am keeping the possiblility in mind. It was a very beautiful snake, and I would have loved to photograph it, but it was very hostile. It didn't bite or strike at me, but it didn't take too kindly to being handled, very nervous. Until somebody corrects me I am under the assumption that a water snake made its way into my garage under the workbench. (my mom was cleaning and apparently disturbed it) oooooh my allergies are acting up........I wonder if I could trade somebody my cat and dog for a couple of snake cages....(i can find the snakes!) As soon as I move, I'm getting a babysitter, going up to Riven Rock (it's a rural creek/hiking place about 45 minutes away from here. I've always seen snakes and turtles up there when I was a kid.) Anyho, lemme know if I'm wrong! -lisa
