Hello. I just got my first Hognose Snake a couple weeks ago. It is a Female Western Hognose. So far, it has refused pre-killed pinkies, even ones that have been "brained". I was reading in the July 2004 issue of Reptiles magazine that Western Hogs like Toads, Salamanders, Fish and other prey items.
I am wondering how effective it would be to "scent" a pinkie with a Salamander to get my Hog to eat? I can find one in my own back yard (free for me) and I found out that I would have to pay $6 for a toad in a local pet shop. Just how effective would it be to "scent" a pinkie with a Salamander?
If that doesn't work, I will eventually have to buy a toad.
