Well hard work pays off again for the second year in a row. I had 110 days POS marked down on the calendar and checked first thing this morning, as it was day 110. I was surprised they were there as I expected them to take longer. Definitely not preemies, almost no yoke left. I used no heating pad but just slightly overhung a corner of the cage over one of the room electric oil filled radiators on the floor. The hot corner maintained high 80’s to low 90’s while the cool corner was mid-high 80’s. They were only 4.5 yrs old when they bred and I did not cool them much at all since they were so nice I did not want to take a chance of resp. These may have been the reasons for only 11 babies with 11 slugs and deformed dead baby. I am just happy that there are a bunch alive and apparently healthy as I have anticipated this litter every day for the last 5 yrs. About half of them are what I was hoping for in that they resemble their parents. The parents were completely unrelated Surinams and these were pretty much the pick of the two 2000’ litters Bob Futo produced. I bought them as babies and raised them up. They were bred for light, clean and thin saddled characteristics. Now I wait for post-partum depression to set in. Here is a picture of the parents:
