I don't think it is worth "trying it out". Snappers prefer to be isolated from other turtles even their own species. Also once your snappers get a little stronger, one bad incident could really cause some harm. Like a tail or foot being bit off.

I would suggest getting two separate tanks. You will need to upgrade in the future anyways. It's just not worth the risk.
