The Peterson Field Guide is a great start and should serve you well. (Peterson is not the author.) They are readily available online. You can get new or used from the obvious book vendors and online marketplaces. You might find a copy in the classifieds on kingsnake.com but I didn't look. In Maryland what you want is the following.

Reptiles and Amphibians Eastern/Central North America third edition

Roger Conant/Joseph T. Collins

ISBN 0-395-90452-8

When searching the site it might be easier to search for Roger Conant or the isbn number. There might also be more specific field guides for MD but I am not familiar with any. It may be worth while to search for a MD specific field guide if that is what you want. I would bet local book stores carry Conant’s field guide as well as any locally specific guides.
