The question is how do you attract the snakes......I was thinking i could gather some good logs and put them in one location.

Placement of artificial cover (plywood, tin) and in your case, logs (natural, but strategically placed by humans) may take a few years to get "seasoned," i.e. snakes both familiarize themselves with its location and find it suitable.

If you can find an illegal dump site in your area with large, flat objects already dispersed on the ground, now and springtime would be good times to check it out.
