She came through for a second time early this morning, giving birth sometime between midnight and 7 AM. There were 24 live young, 2 stillborn, and 8 unfertilized ova. They were very calm, with only a couple of the neonates giving a half-hearted strike as I pulled them all out. The rest payed little attention to my hand as I picked them up. They seem to have better color than previous litters, with all having a nice deep green background. This is the third litter sired by Jud’s great male, which is probably the calmest green anaconda on the planet. The neonates averaged 262 grams and 778 millimeters(~30 in.) in length. Very solid young snakes and very consistent in size compared to other litters. It will be interesting to see how the dates of first shed compare to her previous litter, which all shed earlier than most green anaconda neonates. I have posted a few photos below.
