If you're 22 and it's your money, then stop asking her permission. If you're going to give her the power to control what you do, then expect her to treat you like a child. Stand up for yourself. Do what you know your pet needs you to do for him, and tell your mother to butt out. Yes, it is her house. But it's also your house, and your room if you are paying part of the bills.
The only way she would have something to complain about and an honest gripe, would be if she was still paying your way.
