I've often wondered why snakes rattle and hiss, considering that they don't have ears and are deaf. I know they can feel vibrations such as heavy foot steps, etc. But I guess they can hiss and rattle without even knowing they are making the sound. Through natural selection it is a behavior that exists simply because it works, not necessarily because they understand or are even aware of the sounds. | ||
