Personally, I use heavy white paper for substrate. It does get torn up sometimes but if you provide some hides your Rhino shouldn't feel compelled to burrow under it. Carole has used hay for substrate for Diego and it seemed to work pretty well. I'm not sure how you'd keep it clean.

If your little Rhino was headbobbing in his enclosure that is his way of letting you know that that is his territory and he doesn't like to be bothered there. Rhino headbobs are quite unique and I love watching them.
