Breeding season is one reason and I beleive they also fast during winter because generally in the winter the overall temps tend to drop in the house/enclosure, thus slowing their metabolism and desire to eat. Not to say it happens with all pythons but many. My Ball Python used to fast for almost 6 months at times. But we all know how picky they are
