You want them to have good nutritional value with a balanced calcium phosphorus ratio. Stay away from iceburg lettuce, romaine and leaf lettuce, they have almost no nutritional value, but have a high water content. I feed turnip, dandelion, mustard, bok choy, spring mix, napa, chopped mixed veggies, zucchini and yellow squash. You can also use spinach and kale, but very sparingly. Mine love flowers, their favorite being dandelions, hibiscus and rose petals. Their mix is sprinkled with repcal calcium, herptivite and Sandfire Ranch uro dust. I have a lot of uros, so make a large bowl and mix it well like a tossed salad. Amounts vary by animal and season of the year. Mine are slowing down now as I am in Wisconsin and it is cooler. They eat less over the winter and drop some weight, but when spring arrives, they turn into eating machines and quickly regain their weight and continue to grow. I leave a bowl of dry mix in their cages at all times. I use split green peas, split yellow peas, red lentils, bee pollen, and brown lentils. Hope this helps you out. Good luck. | ||
