My Costa Ricans are the only boas I have that will strike at me when the smell of rats is not present. With that said I guess I was lucky, I don't have a problem with them once they are out of the cage. It took time to get them where they are though. Once there are some US captive breeding I think we can tame them down better. They are definately my favorite mainland imperator locale.
