Hi,
I had an aquatic turtle that has been very healthy till about 6 months ago, when it was bitten by the male trying to mate with her. While her wounds healed, but her tongue and the whole area inside her mouth turned gray/dull instead of pink. She still ate lots of food..fish...reptomin...etc, and the weird thing was, she would pass out food that was 100% undigested. That's right, not digested at all. Raw shrimp/fish got passed out. I have seen it coming out from her anus, so she didn't vomit these out as my vet had suspected.
I kept her at 80F and introduced some feces from other healthy turtles hoping to re-establish beneficial bacteria in her intestines, didn't help at all. Food still got passed out undigested, though her appetite remained good. Her weight actually gained slightly, until a few days ago when she suddenly lost weight very quickly, like it was wasting itself overnight, passed out the last food she ate, undigested, and died.
During all these times, my vet had done blood work and prescribed ceftazidime for treating any chronic infection she might have been fighting with. I am not sure exactly when the digesting problem first occur before or after the antibiotic treatment, but I am sure her mouth tissues/tongue were already gray/dull before I took her to the vet...
I am just wondering what had happened to her? Some sort of chronic disorder or organ failure?
It sure is a long post...thanks for reading...
