Chlorhexidine diacetate (nolvasan, virosan) is usually the 1% or 2% version sold for use on animals (dyed blue). Sometimes it's sold in scented and unscented variations.. I would not bother getting the 'scented' type especially if you have hayfever allergies..can really trigger a sneezing fit lol. Many online herp supply places carry it though usually in the 1 gallon concentration bottles (which is pretty hefty in price -typically $30-40). Farm/Feed supply places also tend to carry it and with them you can often find it in the smaller sizes (32oz and 7 oz). A little goes a LONG way as you have to dilute this stuff prior to use. Unless you got tons of cages and animals to clean you really don't need an entire gallon this stuff is that concentrated. With the blue stuff usually the strongest you will ever want it is 1 part chlorhex to 30 parts water for general disinfecting/cleaning (though many places recommend further dilution than that).
Chlorhexidine gluconate (Hibiclens) is the 4% version sold for human use (dyed red). You don't want to get this stuff into the eyes, mouth or ears as at least with humans it's known to cause adverse reactions. Hibiclens can be found at almost any store with a pharmacy counter.. just ask the pharmacist for it... it's sold over the counter without a prescription. It is great for minor wound treatments and even helps clear up small bouts of acne (ie kills off a lot of the bacteria on the skin that creates the problems), but again.. dilution is often necessary. Full strength use of hibiclens is typically for when it is being used as a pre-op surgical scrub/wash. ----- _____
