DECCAN HERALD (India) 09 December 05 Monitor lizard creates stir at Koramangala office
Bangalore (DH News Service): A nearly three-foot-long monitor lizard found its way into an office at Koramangala on Thursday, and created panic before People For Animals (PFA) volunteers rescued the rarely-found reptile late afternoon.
Clearing and forwarding agent Kariappa, while bending down to open the rack on his computer table, received a shock when he saw the yellow-brownish reptile.
As he hurriedly tried to shut the rack, the tail of the monitor lizard got stuck. Kariappa immediately called PFA activists who came and took the reptile to the PFA Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre at Kengeri. According to Sharad Babu, Senior Manager of PFA, the 1,400 gram lizard was operated upon to treat the wound and clear the gangrene formed by an earlier injury in the tail area. Over 80 ticks were also removed from the reptile’s skin, he added.
The monitor lizard is currently kept under observation, and will be under rehabilitation for four months.
