There isn't much on the Costa Rican locales because there simply isn't experience with them. The majority have come in the last two years from a Serpentarium in CR. Costa Rica does not allow collection or export of native wildlife. One gentleman was permitted to collect animals for research and all CR BCI in culture originated from his efforts. So they are CBB in the US. A VERY few breeders are working with older stock, I know Dennis Sargent is, Jeff Ronne did, and Gus Rentfro did.

There are a few distinct looks among the Costa Rican imperator. These are due to geographis range differences. The primary examples are the Western phase, and the Central/Eastern phase.

From what you describe you have the Central/Eastern variety.

I myself have a pair of the Westerns (unique among all BCI).
There are probably less than 200 Costa Ricans in the country in total.

In refference to size, many believe them to be dwarves. This however seems not to be the case, with many stateing that they can and will reach 8 ft. (females).
