well the first thing to consider is can you afford something that will run you at least $50 each time it has to go to a vet? and it will have to go to a vet. that's just the "in the door" fee. with any kind of medication, that visit just jumped to over $100, and added a return visit for another $50.

also, caging will run you well into the hundreds of dollars by the time your baby bci is an adult. $250-$300 is a rough estimate for adult housing for one boa. that's about how much i have in each of my adults housing...

and don't forget feeding it, as an adult you'll be talking large-jumbo rats, a good price on those buggers is about $3 each, if you buy frozen in bulk.

and heat, don't forget electricity. it'll add to your bill to heat the cage... not much at once, but over the lifetime of the animal, it will become a significant amount.

so to answer your question, you can purchase a boa for under $100, but it will cost you several hundreds (sometimes into the thousands) over the life of the animal.

you can easily spend $1000 on a $50 boa in a few years, especially when you consider that cheap boas can come with expensive problems.
