Yeah, I didn't exactly scrimp anywhere.
Some quick estimates of the per cage expenses:
$50 - 1 sheet oak plywood $50 - 1 sheet formica $100 - 30 board feet of solid oak $5 - contact cement $15 - piano hinge $15 - glass $25 - heat tape $30 - fluorescent fixtures quick estimate total - $290 / level
plus probably another $25 - $50 for incidentals like locks screws stain finish etc. And another $150 or so for the PVC piping I added on the sides
Grand total - $1410 to $1510
I know not cheap and could be made less expensive but these cages will last. All inside surfaces are covered in formica and all seams sealed. All the sides and backs are 3/4 inch plywood all dado and rabbited together. The doors all lock, have glass windows and are cope and stick construction. The face frames have alignment holes along with slots in the sides so the stack can't shift. The entires cage can be set up as 8 individual sectionms or the PVC pipes can be opened to allow travel between all the cage sections. Typically for breeding season I set the cage up as two vertical stacks of 4 cage section seach. In each 4 cage section is colony of 1.3 or 1.4 adult BRB's. ----- Thanks,
