If your going to build a rack and use flexwatt it would be better to take the time and router a groove in the shelves for the flexwatt. You can avoid this but it MAY lead to a flexwatt failure, burn a box, start a fire, etc. Flexwatt is enclosed in a thin layer of clear plastic. The boxes sliding in an out of the shelf rubbing on the top surface of the flexwatt MAY wear through the thin plastic layer. Also, if you do not tape it down along the entire edge a box may catch on the edge and actually tear the plastic when you shove a box into the shelf. I've gotten away with doing it this way but recommend that you take the time to recess the flexwatt into the shelf.
