We went up high in the Ritas this morning, and didn't see much, just some tadpoles and a few lizards. This is a view looking down on Green Valley...

Ed thought he saw one of these hiking at a high elevation, a bunch grass lizard...

At medium elevations, around 3500 to 4000 ft., we saw a couple tiger rattlers this week, a small blacktail, a few lizards, and some toads and frogs. Here's a baby tiger I found two years ago in this same locale...

We spent some time photographing Clark's spiny lizards that live in the rocks there...

Here's that weird arachnid that ran around in circles on the blacktop. Maybe it's called a sun spider...

This morning after we got home I went down by the river to look around and found a puddle just teeming with larvae of the spadefoot toads. Here's the two that occur in Green Valley, the Southern and Couches spadefoots...

I also saw lots of lizards this morning, like desert spinies, zebra-tailed, earless, tree, and a racerunner that looks like a marbled (don't have my Stebbins book w/me).



We've seen a few dor's too, like gopher snakes, and a live gopher, and long-nosed snakes, and a live long-nosed last night, and a few other things, like a diamondback rattler, in the low elevations of the Valley.



Early tomorrow morning we'll be heading for a weekend outing to the Chiricahua Mountains. One of the herps we hope to see on the way in is the desert box turtle. This is a pic of one I saw in 2001...

I probably won't be able to report anything until after our trip, maybe next Tuesday. Hope everyone has a blast this weekend and success in their herping adventures.
