hovabator question

I had this posted in the breeding forum but didn't get a response so I'll try here...
It seems most people use a digital thermostat and probe instead of the wafer with the Hovabators, but I'm not clear on what the heating element is to connect the thermostat too. Is it something on the hovabator or something that needs to be purchased separately? And where do you connect it to the thermostat (I have a Helix DBS-1000 Prioportional Thermostat).
