another thing would be to add a layer of tape to the inside, just to make sure no sharp edges can be rubbed against if digging/burrowing.

I had some rat breeding half height 10 gallon (I guess that'd now be 5 gallon? ) tanks some of which were cracked. I used the 2" package tape on inside and outside and never had any problems.
